Background
Edward
B. Tomlinson II (Bubba), a graduate of Garland High School,
earned his BBA in marketing and finance from Texas Christian
University in 1969. He received his doctorate of jurisprudence
from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1971.
In
the late 1970's, Tomlinson and Luther Westerfield, JR., a Rockwall
real estate broker, formed a brokerage company, Tomlinson-Westerfield
Real Estate, Inc. Soon thereafter, related companies were formed
for real estate activities, which coincided with the corporate
names. These included Tomlinson-Westerfield Construction Corporation,
Tomlinson-Westerfield Development Corporation, and Tomlinson-Westerfield
Management Corporation.
Throughout
the years, there have been various shareholders and officers
of the related companies, however, Bubba Tomlinson has been
and continues to be responsible for the overall management activities
of all the companies. He has also continued to practice law
in Dallas and Garland since 1971, and is the past president
of the Garland Bar association. He was on the Board of Founders
National Bank from 1986 through 1992 and Chairman of Provident
Bank, Dallas, from 1997 through 1999.
As
the construction and development activities declined in the
early and mid-1980's, emphasis was placed on management of real
estate projects. Tomlinson Management Corp. represented several
banks in the management of their real estate portfolios, including
Mbank, Inwood National Bank, and Founders National Bank-Skillman.
Responsibilities
for the bank properties involve assessment of condition and
major/minor renovations and/or demolitions. Tomlinson-Leis Corp.
is currently the real estate consultant for Founders National
Bank and Inwood National Bank.
Tomlinson-Leis
Corp. also manages several homeowners associations and contracts
monthly for the maintenance, rehabilitation, and capitol improvements
for more than 250 properties.
In
the early 1990's, Tomlinson Management Corp. acquired management
for owners of properties that were purchased from lending institutions
and government entities, resulting in the company growing over
50% in this time period.
Dorbet,
Inc., of Texas, an investment firm headed by Hawaii real estate
developer Dorvin D. Leis, acquired 50% of Tomlinson Management
Corporation in 1994. Dorvin is a prominent developer, entrepreneur,
and philanthropist in Maui, Hawaii. Tomlinson Management Corp.
began managing part of his Texas holdings in 1991.
A
native Californian, Dorvin D. Leis began as a carpenter and
plumber in 1952. He launched the Dorvin D. Leis Company, Inc.
in 1963 as a partnership and assumed the sole ownership in 1966,
engaging in commercial, industrial, and institution projects
for piping, plumbing, steam fitting, and boiler work. Dorvin
D. Leis Company, Inc. is one of the top 350 sub-contracting
firms in the USA, and was named Contractor of the Year by the
Hawaiian Chapter of the American Public Works Association of
August 2000. The August 2000 issue of Hawaiian Business Magazine
named the company as the 176th largest corporation in Hawaii.
As
a result of Mr. Leis' investment in Tomlinson Management Corp.,
the name was changed to Tomlinson-Leis Corporation. Under new
structure, Tomlinson-Leis placed emphasis not only in managing
real estate, but also the development of residential and commercial
properties. Now, Tomlinson-Leis is at a point where we can capitalize
on the economic growth of our area proving a wide range of real
estate services.
In
1990, Dorvin D. Leis started acquiring properties in the Dallas-Fort
Worth area. Since his entry into this real estate market, Mr.
Leis has become a highly recognized and dominant factor in the
DFW business community. His portfolio includes 12 office buildings
with nearly 1,000,000 square feet of space with more than 400
tenants, over 150 residential rental units, two housing developments,
and several industrial, commercial, and residential land sites.
Through
the direction of the partners, the focus of Tomlinson-Leis the
past year is a program of acquisition and expansion of properties
in Downtown Dallas. Mr. Leis already has real estate near the
entrance of the enormous, 53-acre sports complex. This will
include the new multi-million dollar American Airlines Sports
Center, the new home of the Dallas NBA Mavericks and NHL Stars.
Tomlinson-Leis Corporation has vision to expand with the dynamic
growth of the DFW metroplex in the 21st century.
